January 28th,1907 Lieutenant Naughton of Engine Co. 8 Died in the Line of Duty while supervising his crew at a 3+ Alarm Fire at Box 29, The HooDoo Box at 101-107 Seneca St. While operating a hose line from the roof of a neighboring building, a collapse of the 8 story building buried the crews of Engine's 4 & 8. After 2 hours, 10 men had been dug out of the rubble, however 3 remained missing after a roll call was taken. It took 17 hours to locate the bodies of the missing men. Lieutenant Naughton had only been on scene for about 15 minutes when the collpase buried him.
