May 13th,1903 Lieutenant Clark of Engine Co. 21 Died in the Line of Duty while operating at a 3+ Alarm Fire at the Diamond Mills Storehouse at Abbott Rd and Elk St. Lieutenant Clark was supervising the initial attack lines placement when he was struck in the head by the heavy brass coupling as the line was charged. Due to the chaos of the fire, Lieutenant Clark was not tended to immediately. Lieutenant Clark bled laying in field as members tried to battle the fast moving blaze as it neared conflagration status. Clark was eventually taken to the hospital where he died of a head fracture. Engine 21 was temporarily stationed on the Hamburg Turnpike storage sheds and was one of the first to arrive at the fire.
