January 24th, 1934 Captain Amos of Rescue Squad No. 2 Died in the Line of Duty after a terrific explosion caused the building to collapse burying the Captain and 4 other men while they were operating at a 3 Alarm Fire at the Kreiner & Son's Malthouse at 467 Spring St. Twenty members were injured during the explosion and collapse. Captain Amos was a 50 year veteran of the Buffalo Fire Department.
