September 14th,1923 Captain Kelly of Engine Co. 36 Died in the Line of Duty while responding to a reported fire at 21 North Park Ave. Captain Kelly was thrown from the apparatus when the pumper was struck by a speeding automobile at Delaware and Hertel Aves. The 30 year veteran died a short time later and four other members were injured in the crash.
