May 6th, 1922 Fireman Jones, Engineer of Engine Co. 19 serving as the Acting Lieutenant Died in the Line of Duty while responding to a pulled street box at Herkimer St and Potomac Ave. As the apparatus neared the corner of Grant St and Bird Ave, the Engine collided with Ladder Co. 12 which was responding down Grant St. Acting Lieutenant Jones was pinned between the two rigs and suffered severe injuries. He died a short time later. The malicious false alarm was pulled by a 5 year old boy.
