August 7th, 1923 Fireman Brand of Engine Co.24 Died in the Line of Duty while returning from a fire after the rig was struck by a motor truck at Main St and Leroy Ave. Fireman Brand jumped to avoid the collision but became pinned between the two vehicles. The burst radiator of the truck scalded Fireman Brand before he was run over. One other member also riding the tailboard was injured in the crash.
