February 9th, 1931 Lieutenant Masterson of Engine Co. 9 Died in the Line of Duty after being overcome while operating in the basement of a building fire at 575 Main St. Lieutenant Masterson exited the building after being overcome by smoke but returned to aid in the rescue of two Firemen from Ladder Co. 2 who became trapped inside. After finding the missing members, the Lieutenant collapsed while exiting and was found overcome once again by members who reentered to search for him.
