July 20th, 1890 Driver Shannon of Ladder Co. 4 Died in the Line of Duty while responding to a Alarm of Fire at 322 W.Utica St. Driver Shannon was thrown from the seat of the Hook & Ladder after its wheels caught the trolley tracks causing the rig to swerve. Shannon was struck by the wheels of the apparatus and severely injured. He was taken to his home on Herkimer St where he Died within 20 minutes. The fire Ladder 4 was responding to was a burglary, so Arson was added to the charges of the perp.
