December 5th, 1925 Fireman Schmidt of Engine Co. 27 Died in the Line of Duty while operating at a 2+ Alarm Fire at 500 Smith St. Fireman Schmidt and the crew of Engine 27 were operating a handline from a ladder when the wall swayed sending them tumbling to the ground. While attempting to move away, the wall collapsed burying the crew. Fireman Schmidt died instantly.
