January 23rd, 1891 Captain Fischer of Engine Co. 4 Died in the Line of Duty while supervising his crew at a 3+ Alarm Fire at Pearl St and The Terrace. Captain Fischer was directing his crews operation of a stream of water into the gutted building when suddenly a collapse of the floors caused the front wall to crumble. Captain Fischer, his crew and several other men were buried under the debris before being dug out. Captain Fischer Died Instantly from his injuries. He was an original member of the Department in 1880.
