February 2nd, 1889, Fireman Marion of Engine Co.10 Died in the Line of Duty while operating at a massive 3+ Alarm Fire at Wells and Carroll Sts at Box 29. The massive fire that began in the Root & Keating Leather Merchants building spread to nearly 3 dozen buildings before finally being contained. As Fireman Marion and others worked a stream of water into the ruins, the walls collapsed burying over a dozen men. Slowly they were dug out with varying degrees of Injuries. After a headcount, it was determined that Fireman Marion was still missing. After several hours of digging,  Fireman Marion's lifeless body was recovered. Seventeen men were injured in the collapse and dozens more over the duration of the fire. To this day, this is the Largest fire in Buffalo's history.
