November 12th, 1917 Captain White of Ladder Co. 4 Died in the Line of Duty while supervising his crew at a working fire at 63 Chandler St. During overhaul operations the roof suddenly collapsed burying a half dozen men. Captain White died en-route to the hospital of his injuries. Captain White was a senior member of the BFD, awaiting promotion to Battalion Chief. He was known for the Pride he showed in his appearance while in uniform, and the way he kept his quarters and men in fine order.
