February 9th, 1891 Fireman Wilson of Engine Co. 7 Died in the Line of Duty of injuries previously received while responding to a Fire Alarm at the Jewett Stove works at Perry and Mississippi Sts. on February 6th. Fireman Wilson was driving the Steamer when the rear axle broke off. Wilson was thrown from his seat and struck the ground before the Steamer overturned and landed on top of him. The relief valve broke off and scalded him with its full force. Members of Engine Co.7 and bystanders pulled Wilson from the wreckage. Wilson was taken to the Hospital in grave condition where he succumbed 3 days later.
