February 28th, 1922 Fireman Cassidy of Engine Co. 5 Died in the Line of Duty while responding to a box at Peckham and Mortimer Sts. Fireman Cassidy was riding the sideboard of the apparatus when it was struck at Oneida and Smith Sts. by a heavy truck. Fireman Cassidy was crushed in the accident and died enroute to the Hospital. He was a 30 year veteran of the B.F.D.
