February 28th, 1931 Marine Pilot Richardson of Engine Co. 20 the Fireboat W.S. Grattan Died in the Line of Duty after being stricken while returning the Fireboat to quarters from a fire at 52 O'Connell Ave. Pilot Richardson had to overexert himself to steer the boat in the heavy current which caused him to fall ill and he collapsed in the wheelhouse
