February 1st, 1922 Fireman Farrell of Engine Co.11 and Aide to the 4th Battalion Chief Died in the Line of Duty while responding to a 2 Alarm Fire at the Francis Xavier School in Black Rock. While responding up Niagara St the Chiefs vehicle struck an I.R.C. Trolley Car head on throwing Farrell and Chief Eimiller from the car. Fireman Farrell died instantly of his injuries. Witnesses claim Farrell avoided crashing into oncoming automobiles and struck the train car intentionally saving the lives of many civilians.
