September 18th, 1914 Fireman O'Brein of Engine Co. 8 Died in the Line of Duty of Injuries previously received on September 14th while operating at a 3+ Alarm Fire at the Standard Oil Co. at Elk and Babcock Sts. Fireman O'Brein was operating a handline between tanks when he became covered in oil. The oil ignited burning O'Brein until his comrades put the flames out with dirt and mud. Fireman O'Brein succummed to his injuries at the Emergency Hospital.
