November 11th,1901 Captain Mahoney of Engine Co. 6 Died in the Line of Duty from Injuries previously received while responding to a fire at the Dole Packing Company on November 2nd. While crossing the intersection of Seneca and Smith Sts, the rear of the Hose Cart was struck by the Seneca St trolley flipping it over and sending Captain Mahoney to the ground. The hose carts wheels ran over the Captain causing severe concussion injury to his brain. Captain Mahoney was only spared immediate death due to his helmet remaining on which took the brunt of the impact. Captain Mahoney died in the General Hospital. Captain Mahoney was transferred to Engine Co. 6 after the death of Captain Manning in 1887. He was the 2nd Line of Duty Death of an Engine Co. 6 member in 10 days.
