August 12th, 1924 Fireman Gall of Engine Co.1 Died in the Line of Duty of Injuries Received while filling an extinguisher at the Quarter's of Chemical Co. No. 1 on the Terrace. After extinguishing a blaze at the rear of the Lafayette Theater, Fireman Gall was assigned to refill the device's. While attempting to charge the pressurized extinguisher the device became over pressurized causing the top to blow off striking Fireman Gall in the forehead. He died instantly from the injury. A plugged pressure guage was blamed as the cause of the violent discharge.
